REO is an original manufacturer of high quality power equipment, including electronic controllers, components and electrical regulators.
Electrified line systems for railways fall into two broad divisions AC and DC, although AC is becoming the standard for new schemes which are used for main line services. For new high-power schemes 25 or 50kV, single phase AC is used for the distribution of power and sometimes as the voltage delivered to the locomotive. For low power schemes such as suburban lines 25kV AC is the usual voltage. Most systems now run at industrial frequency so that advantage can be taken of existing national power supply grids. Power is fed through an AC overhead conductor which is usually supported by a catenary and dropper wires, with tensioning arrangements to ensure that the conductor is parallel to the rail. The power is picked up by a pantograph.
