Switch mode power supplies
REO build a range of variable output DC power supplies that operate on the switch mode principle. The variable output is produced by high speed switching of the mains supply, after rectification, using IGBT's and controlling the mark space ratio. The DC level is reduced to the required output range by employing REO high-frequency transformers. Smoothing components, also manufactured by REO, are used to give a steady, ripple free DC supply.
Thyristor controllers
REO build a wide range of single and three phase thyristor controllers that work on the phase-angle control principle. These are used for voltage, current or power regulation applications. The largest stand-alone unit, produced so far, is water cooled and is rated for 3 x 450A. Even larger regulators can be built by using the REOTRON MDZ 6-pulse controller in conjunction with a thyristor stack.
