INVERTER DRIVE COMPONENT TEST SYSTEM OFFERS REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION/HIGHER POWER TESTING OPTIONS

An energy-optimising, modular test system that significantly reduces the energy required for proving trials of industrial electrical equipment has been developed by REO. Its modular construction permits it to be adapted to individual customer specifications whilst its energy efficiency helps drive down the base cost of products.

Intended for ‘on load’ testing of products such as line reactors, harmonic/EMC filters, various types of choke and braking resistors, the new REO system cleverly optimises energy usage, either by feeding energy back via a regenerative system or by using reactive loads to make energy savings. It also provides the option for testing at higher power levels than might otherwise have been possible with a given electrical mains supply.

The test equipment is based upon an AC/DC power supply, motor, generator and regenerative unit – individual units sized according to specification. The modules are controlled locally by an REO Powerformer using a mouse or integral touchpad on an HMI. Additional remote workstations can be added via an Ethernet bus.

Typically, the applied current curve is displayed as well as the test system schematic. The schematic is clearly laid out so that the functionality or condition of active elements and sensors can be assessed and displayed clearly, making operation easy for the user. Typically, the contact status and corresponding current and voltage values will be displayed. The units under test are connected using high-current plug-in connectors and are switched ON and OFF via contactors.
