An order valued in excess of € 1m for a system to test electronic equipment was supplied to the China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS) by REO for use in the development of the Olympic Fast Train. It is used for final testing of train components to verify performance compliance, which is critical with the train traveling at speeds up to 300 km / h. The REO test equipment was employed successfully for the initial six Fast Trains and is now being used for an additional 60 trains.
The problem (if it is one!) Is that REO consists of several divisions, each specializing in its own field of operations, with individual competencies and strengths. So a one-line answer which encapsulates all our capabilities is virtually impossible.
Limiting inrush current at the primary of transformers has always been a problem. Depending generally on the transformer type, quality and the voltage phase angle at start-up, the inrush current can be 15-20x nominally rated current for a short period of time.
Our guidelines will basically disect the applicable points of EN61800-3 and provide the user with informed information so that they then may make the best choices to ensure that their installation complies with legislative requirements.
For those of you who don't know, John Symonds started REO UK 20 years ago in a small office in Craven Arms. Time has passed and we are now seven people occupying about 10 times the floor space and John has been elevated to Chairman of REO Elektronik.

The proliferation of higher power and more feature packed Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and endoscopy stack systems has meant that the necessity for safe operation in accordance to the mandatory EN60601 standard for electronic / electrical equipment used in the patient environment has driven power requirements for REO's range of Medical Isolation Transformers higher.
