SAFE AND STANDARDISED PRODUCTS FOR RAILWAY ENGINEERING

The safety of passengers and the compliance of railway standards is of the utmost importance in this market. Most applications demand that components must be adapted to the local environmental and operating conditions. High quality standards and continuous developments ensure that that REO is a reliable partner within this sector.

To guarantee compliance with railway norms, standards and the classification of Ingress Protection the following methods are used:

  • FEM analysis for the simulation of environmental influences


For railway technology REO offers inter alia:

  • NPT – test chokes for load test of frequency converters
  • REOLAB mobil – mobile power supply for the railway workshop
  • REOLAB – test devices for duration and function tests

All components for the railway technology - from transformers and chokes up to filters - are developed as a standard design or in accordance with the specific requirements of our customers. Without this specific, essential requirements, no product can operate:

  • Safety: to ensure that the safety and comfort of passengers are not impaired, every component used in a train must meet the current norms and standards. Own tests and accredited testing laboratories prove the safety of our components. 
  • Weight: Intelligent methods in materials selection and FEM-calculation mean that REO components are of particularly low weight. 
  • Space : The optimal use of space, and compliance with specified mechanical and electrical requirements, form the basis of our development work. 
  • Costs: With the latest software, simulation and testing techniques, we ensure that the necessary development work is already optimally used in advance.

    Air choke with aluminium-copper/disc winding

    LD 220

    Air chokes are particularly used where high inductive linearity is required. Due to their relatively simple mechanical structure, they are not only compact, but also very robust.


    With our expertise, the REO air chokes perform to the required standard, even in the most arduous conditions.

    • Tolerances: + 10 / - 10 %, + 5 / - 5 %

    • Taps: By default, no taps (available on request)

    REO is able to offer different designs and winding techniques, a variety of conductor materials and structures. Depending on the specific requirements, we are able to produce an optimal solution by combining these parameters to provide the perfect solution.

    In railway applications, where it‘s about the greatest possible comfort and safety of passengers, components are required that save space, are safe and have a long service life. Supply interruptions or voltage drops can lead to a range of undesirable effects such as the loss of motor power. 


    The REO leakage transformer ensures harmonized current and voltage outputs, filtering harmonics, and limiting the ripple current.With the spatial separation of the primary and secondary windings and the resulting intentional increase in the magnetic leakage field, the REO leakage transformer achieves a loose magnetic coupling. 


    This results in the combination of the function of a transformer (transforming voltage with galvanic separation) and a current-limiting choke.

    Mobile three-phase AC and DC resistive load for train technology

    REOLOAD mobil

    Applications:


    Passenger cars no longer have to be shunt to a stationary resis­tive load for inspection purposes – with the REOLOAD mobil the resistive load comes to the car. Auxiliary converters or DC bat­tery chargers can be tested. A 20m long mains cable with safety plug provides a large radius for inspection works and fast pro­cesses.


    A display with control panel is integrated.

    As a passive inductive component in power supplies and in power electronics, the buck-converter choke is used for attenuating undesirable frequencies or for saving and storing energy.


    The term buck-converter choke indicates the complete ready-for-use unit containing the choke, air cooling, mounting and connections. The chokes are available with different cores, which enables individual selection depending on the requirement of the application. In addition to iron-based cores, chokes with cores of amorphous alloy are becoming more common, in the form of toroidal cores, cut strip-wound cores or special custom solutions.


    The use of amorphous materials offers an exceptional combination of high satur­ation flux density (1.56 T) and a high permeability. In addition to the high temperature class, further features of amorphous alloy include low hysteresis and eddy-current losses, suitability for the medium-frequency range (<20 kHz) and use for high powers up to 500 kVA.

    Directly cooled surge current choke

    The current limiting inductor limits the short-circuit current in a bridge circuit. Thus, the intermediate circuit is protected and prevents the destruction of the connected semiconductor devices. Usually IGBT‘s.
