The IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2 standards specify the safety of medical electrical equipment. To implement these to ensure a secure power supply, knowledge and a lot of experience are required. In the in-house test facility at the REO plant in Pfarrkirchen, all transformers are subjected to strict tests that ensure compliance with the relevant standards. In addition to the production of
standard products, REO has a large vertical range of manufacture. This allows customer-specific specifications, such as special housings or mounting plates for transformers, to be implemented in a simple way. Highlight of medical technology
REO AG has successfully completed the certification for the new 3.2 edition of its REOMED isolation transformers. This certification will be mandatory from October 2024 and underlines the quality and reliability of the REOMED series, which was developed specifically for medical technology.
These transformers are used in a wide range of medical applications worldwide, from hospital equipment to complex medical imaging systems. The REOMED transformers are characterized by their excellent insulation capacity and low electromagnetic interference, which ensures safe and reliable operation. An example of the products in this series is the REOMED 2200, which is unique with its nominal output power of 2200 VA.

Without the use of electricity, modern examination and surgical methods would not be possible. Whether it’s computed tomography, ECG or treatment at the dentist – on the one hand, the use of electricity has replaced and improved traditional treatment methods, and on the other hand, it has made certain procedures possible in the first place. Especially in the medical sector, where the electrical applications are in direct contact with the patient, a potential hazard is particularly high. These sources of danger are countered with standards such as IEC 60601-1, which regulate the requirements for a safe power supply in the medical sector and protect the patient from dangers.
