The season for giving
Shropshire-based power quality specialist REO UK has traded in its Christmas cards for charity this year, donating the festive funds to Lingen Davies Cancer Fund. The donation will go towards the charity’s ongoing projects with the radiotherapy department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The funds will be used to purchase a specialised couch in the radiotherapy department at the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre. This follows a successful campaign in which the charity raised funds for a new Linear Accelerator (LINAC), which is used by practitioners at the Centre in radiation treatment of cancer patients.
“Healthcare is one of the biggest sectors benefitting from REO technology,” explained Steve Hughes, managing director of REO UK. “Many of the company’s electrical products are used to ensure safe and stable performance of medical equipment. However, while this provides a high quality of treatment, this does not guarantee that a patient has access to the treatment and care when they need it.
“Lingen Davies Cancer Fund has been doing some impressive campaigning to raise the necessary funds for the extra LINAC to guarantee that treatment is available in the local community. Yet there is an ongoing need for funding to ensure that those with cancer can have the best possible treatment and receive an equally high quality of care. Businesses have a responsibility to help projects like this get the funding they require and deserve.”
Lingen Davies Cancer Fund is a charity that operates in Shropshire and Mid Wales, working to improve the quality of services for the relief of cancer patients in the area. It was first established in 1979 by then-Mayor of Shrewsbury Bernard Lingen and accountant Frank Davies.
“As a small charity, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund is always grateful to local companies for their support, especially when it is chosen by employees,” explained Liz Kyle, acting fundraising manager at Lingen Davies. “Having successfully reached our £750,000 target to help fund the purchase of an additional LINAC for the radiotherapy department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, we now want to raise an additional £166,000 to buy a specialised couch to accompany it. This donation will be put towards the couch and is much appreciated.”
REO UK is a manufacturer and provider of power quality solutions across a wide range of industries, including in healthcare and medical. Its transformers play an important role in assuring electrical safety for patients, caregivers and doctors.
